Approach

Dr Schechter’s approach is patient centered, with an emphasis on listening to the patient’s experience and history. Goals of treatment include preventing, diagnosing, and treating disease, as well as reducing discomfort and improving function. When necessary, Dr Schechter is an expert in endoscopic procedures, used for diagnosis and treatment. He employs an integrative approach

complementing medical care with other modalities, including acupuncture, which he performs himself in his private clinic.

Experience

Dr Schechter is Medical Director of Gastroentrology at Misgav Ladach Hospital in Jerusalem. He is also a Senior Attending physician at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where he heads the Gastro Genetics Clinic, which treats individuals and families at high risk for gastrointestinal malignancy.

Dr Schechter received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York in 2002, where he also completed his Internal Medicine residency. He completed Gastroenterology fellowship at Columbia University/ Harlem Hospital in New York and worked in private practice In Westchester, NY, before making Aliyah with his family, in 2012.

. When necessary, Dr Schechter is an expert in endoscopic procedures, used for diagnosis and treatment of GI illnesses, including: Colonoscopy- for the detection and removal of (pre)cancerous polyps

Gastroscopy - for evaluation and treatment of diseases of the upper GI tract like esophagitis, peptic ulcer disease, H pylori , celiac etc

While Western medicine has made great advances in diagnosing and treating disease, there are limits to what we have to offer, especially relating to functional issues , like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), functional dyspepsia, chronic or acute joint pain. Dr Schechter employs Japanese-style Acupuncture, which uses Hara (abdominal) diagnosis to treat many maladies.
